In our lists of places, we have nursing homes, including one chain that has 13 different facilities around our state and another with 24 facilities where we drop off patients. Additionally, we have hospital chains (including our own) with upwards of 20 facilities around the state. Each group of these facility chains start with the same strings of characters.
When you start typing in the "Agency" box of either the Requestor or Receiver, a list automatically drops down showing the first 10 facilities that match what you've typed so far. In most cases, this is sufficient, but in these particular cases, it is not.
This creates two problems:
1) The list isn't sorted alphabetically (even though the facilities edit screens in settings are sorted alpha), making it difficult to scan through a long list.
2) The controller has to type enough of the name to get to something unique enough to pull up the particular facility (s)he's after, and sometimes that's a LOT of typing: 'Miller's Merry Manner of _' is required to get to any of the 14 facilities not (randomly) listed in the first 10.
If the list box was sorted alphabetically by facility name, it would be easy to know that '... of Washington' would be at or near the bottom.
If the list box was scrollable, typing 'Miller' would be enough to filter to all those 24 locations, then the controller could mouse or scroll down to pick '... of Washington' down near the bottom of the list.

If there is a Short Code associated with the facility, the controller can use that to quickly jump to the desired facility, and our controllers know the Short Codes associated with more common facilities (including our own hospitals), however, few nursing homes/ECFs have them, and there are far too many to create them for each one and for the controllers to be expected to memorize hundreds of them.
