Currently, aircraft stations (e.g., baggage compartment at station 106") and the Equipment List exist as separate, independent data sets within the platform. When a pilot creates a flight, equipment list items assigned to a specific station are included by default — however, the station weight tracking does not account for the weight of those pre-existing equipment list items.
This creates a dangerous gap: when a pilot manually adds weight to a station (e.g., baggage at station 106"), the system only considers the manually entered weight — not the baseline weight already contributed by equipment list items at that station. As a result, a pilot could inadvertently exceed the station's maximum weight limit without any system warning.
Proposed Solution:
Enable stations and the Equipment List to recognize each other behind the scenes. Specifically:
When calculating a station's current weight during flight planning, the system should automatically factor in the cumulative weight of all Equipment List items assigned to that station.
- If a pilot adds additional weight (e.g., baggage, cargo, snacks) that — combined with Equipment List item weights — would exceed the station's weight limit, the system should flag this with a clear warning before the flight is saved or submitted.
- The station weight display should reflect total weight (equipment list items + manually added weight) so pilots always have an accurate picture.
Customer Impact:
This is a safety-critical gap. Without this integration, pilots may unknowingly create weight & balance plans that exceed station limits, posing a potential compliance and safety risk.
