Current situation
Air Maestro currently allows crew incompatibilities to be configured and displayed through warnings and visual indicators only. While this functionality is suitable for managing "unfriendly" pairings, it does not prevent schedulers from assigning crew members together when the incompatibility should be strictly prohibited. Following a recent audit, a requirement was identified to ensure that specific crew incompatibilities are enforced by the system and cannot be bypassed during the scheduling process.
Suggested enhancement description
Introduce a new level of crew pairing restriction within Air Maestro. When a pairing is classified as "Avoid", the system should enforce a hard stop and prevent the scheduler from creating, assigning or saving the crew pairing. The restriction should be applied directly within the Scheduling module, ensuring that incompatible crew members cannot be rostered together.
Reason/Justification for Suggested Enhancement
Certain crew incompatibilities are linked to safety, compliance, medical, training and regulatory requirements. The current warning-based approach relies on human intervention and allows the pairing to proceed despite the restriction. Implementing a system-enforced block would strengthen operational controls, support audit requirements, reduce the risk of human error, and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
What process does it improve
Crew Scheduling, Crew Pairing Management, Compliance Monitoring and Operational Risk Control.
